John Lowry Home

This original milestone home was built in the 1850’s and was expanded on the north side sometime before 1888. John and his wife, Sarah raised eight children here. One of their daughters, Olive, married the renowned photographer George Edward Anderson. Mr. Lowry worked as an Indian interpreter. He has allegedly been associated with starting the infamous Black Hawk War during an altercation with a young Ute chief, Jake Arapeen, in Manti. The home was purchased in 2007 by Herb and Wendy Basso, who extensively renovated the interior, but kept the original footprint of the house, the wood floors and walls. It is currently owned by Mike and Marianne Heath.
