Niels P. Hjort House

This well-preserved, vernacular stone house was built in the years 1876-1880 by Neils Hjort. He opted for a New England house type. The house ha a T-plan with one end of the ‘T’ facing the street. The entry is recessed beneath a wide front porch. The warm-colored, squared oolite is laid in regular courses. Federal lintel caps trim the windows. A single dormer allows light into the attic.

Niels Hjort acquired this land from John Sanders and John McCune. He was a Norwegian immigrant and a convert to Mormonism and became a moderately successful farmer. He lived here with his family.
