This charming city hall was built in 1893 of local oolite limestone by masons Jens. P. Carlson, Jens “Rock” Sorensen and John P. Bohlin. Marinus Mortensen served as both a carpenter and painter on the building. Its sturdy walls are made of uniform sizes of cut stones laid in regular courses. The facade is symmetrical with central double doors flanked by tall windows. The cornice is Greek Revival in style with returns and frieze. A belfry tops the roof.
The building was used as a school house, but also held band rehearsals. It had a curfew bell that rang at 9 pm every night, reminding boys and girls that it was time to go home. In 1900 a much larger public school was opened, and this one ceased operating. City business and City Council meetings were held here for many years, until 1986 when the City moved into the larger old Jr. High School which provided more room. The city has leased this architecturally intact city hall to the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers.
